Patriots Equal Longest Victory Run Since Tom Brady Years with Win Over New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five touchdowns during the current campaign
The New England Patriots equaled their longest winning run from the Brady era as they defeated AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three scores as the New England squad claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's last year with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Drake Maye threw for 281 yards and a TD, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The win extends the Patriots lead at the summit of the division as they advanced to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields running in a five-yard TD to finish the Jets' first possession
But the Patriots responded in the second quarter as the rookie scored two short rushing scores before the running back grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third quarter to make it 21-7
"It was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of the rookie. "He wants to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie late in the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales booted a two field goals in the final period as the Patriots wrapped up the win
